Quick Shtick Writing #2

Status:
Completed first draft. On the pile to get revised for submitting to publishers/agents. This was our second alternating-writers project. This time it was more like a page at a time. There was still very little planning out. Still needs major editing and some rewriting. Could be part of a series of books, probably two or three.

Premise:
Fantasy Disaster Flick. A supernatural evil is coming to a small fishing town. A wizard has come to warn them. They can't stop it, but if they come together they might survive.

Cast:
- Wizard
- Mayor
- Daughter
- Fisherman's son
- Town madam

Commentary:
It was fun writing what was basically a disaster movie. There were some elements that got included that had us joking to each other, "of course... it's a disaster movie, after all!" This one went much better as a project than the first one did. We knew more or less what the ending was. There were some events that we knew would happen, and roughly the sequence for them. But we didn't know what was going to connect the events. There were also five or so major characters, and we tried to give them all roughly equal page time, since we rotated perspectives through them. In revising, we'll have to decide whose perspective each scene should happen from, so we'll lose the even rotation some. But with more space per post we had more opportunity to flesh out characters, and settings, and events. I think the results are much better for it. I think we have characters a reader can invest in, and care about as the town falls apart around them.
